World Hypertension Day

Today people around the globe have an increased awareness about hypertension, due to the efforts of the world hypertension league. It is due to the consistent efforts and contributions from the members of the world hypertension league that the 17th of May is celebrated as the world hypertension day each year.

The world hypertension day has immense significance as it is has been formulated by around 85 national hypertension societies and leagues that are coming from varied backgrounds. This day was founded in order to enhance the awareness on hypertension and its complications.

The main focus of the world hypertension day is to treat patients suffering from hypertension and keep blood pressure under control. According to the medical experts at the world hypertension league (WHL), the standard blood pressure level is 140/90 mmHg for the people who are not suffering from any other complications.

On the other hand, the standard blood pressure level is 130/80 mm/Hg for people suffering from diabetes mellitus or chronic renal diseases. There is excessive stress on making major changes in lifestyle as suggested one of the themes “healthy diet, healthy blood pressure”. The world hypertension day reminds the people to constantly monitor their blood pressure levels by using the various blood pressure measuring devices that are available in the form of home kits.
